The Tagalong Historian, In Print

Here is a little article I wrote for Retrospect, the university journal for history, classics and archaeology. You can find my brief account of the Darien disaster, titled (click to read it): Scotland’s Lost Colony, on page 12. The focus of the issue was failure, and I would argue (and do) that the Darien scheme was Scotland’s greatest failure to date, resulting in the creation of Great Britain with the Act of Union in 1707, which is still a highly contested issue today as the 2014 referendum approaches.
